The Environmental Protection Agency has been advancing capacity building of  its  staff  through  local  and  international  partnerships.  Moreover,  during  the  period April to July, given the COVID 19 restrictions, the Agency has aggressively pursued and participated in approximately Thirty five (35) webinars aimed at enhancing staff ability to address the growing demand for pollution control and environmental management.

These were executed through networking and collaboration with international organizations such as; International Association of Impact Assessment (IAIA), International Development Bank (IDB), International Offshore Petroleum Environmental Regulators (IOPER), and The Responsible Mining Foundation (RMF), Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), among several others.

Staff would have advanced their knowledge areas such as;

  1. Enforcing socio economic compliance from a Social Distance.
  2. In-depth session on communication strategies with practical case illustrations.
  3. Effective Project Level Grievance Mechanisms in a Changing Landscape: An Interactive Tool
  4. Finance and the energy transition.
  5. Land Consolidation Legislation: FAO Legal Guide and its Application at Country Level.
  6. Gender and Mining
  7. Compliance and Enforcement of Impact Assessment (EsIA) Requirements, Commitments and Related Permit Conditions.
  8. The Use of Remote Sensing for Mineral Exploration and Geohazards: Best Practices.
  9. Geo Engineering and Geo Environmental Hazards Monitoring and Management
  10. How to 'COVID-Proof' your workplace - Risk Reduction Advice for Employees & Employers.
  11. Our biodiversity-key to our economic growth, resilience and sustainable livelihoods.

As we navigate this new reality, our success as an Agency will no doubt rely heavily upon our ability to acquire and efficiently utilize the necessary resources to perform our functions as skilled personnels.
