The EPA in collaboration with WWF's Guyana office and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) hosted a two day gender mainstreaming workshop durin June 13-14, 2019. The main objective was to explore how the Agency can integrate gender and inclusiveness in its work. The specific objectives of the workshop included providing a greater understanding of gender issues and the gender dimensions of various environmental sectors including forestry, waste management, and biodiversity. The workshop also aimed at strengthening the awareness of participants on international frameworks and cases on environmental issues with gender equality, women's empowerment, and human rights.

Through theoretical and practical exercises, participants were made aware of how they can integrate gender issues in the development and implementation of projects and programes at the EPA.

Additionally, the EPA collaborated with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Guianas is coordinating a five -day training on,“Strengthening capacity in reviewing Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA)” within the mining and oil and gas sectors during July 8-12.  The workshop aimed to examine SEA, as a tool, can be used to identify critical environmental and social safeguards to be incorporated into plans, permits, and policies for various sectors and to strengthen the overall regulatory framework.
