Region 1 Community Forestry Organisations benefits from EPA workshop under EU FLEGT programme

 

January 15, 2019 - Twenty seven (27) representatives from five (5) Community Forest (CFOs) benefitted from the day long workshop held in Mabaruma, Region 1. This is the fourth workshop hosted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the EU FLEGT programme. The workshop was held at the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) and aimed at sensitising operators within Community Forest Organisations on the Environmental Authorisation process. The overall aim of the programme is to ensure, all forest operators become authorised in keeping with Section 14 of the Environmental Protection Act Cap. 20:05, laws of Guyana, before development consent is given, in this case the harvesting and utilisation of forest resources, an Operator must first seek approval from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

EPA engages Community Forestry Organisations in Region 10


Forty two (42) representatives from the Kwakwani, Ituni, Aroaima, Hururu, Great Falls and # 58 Miles Mabura communities benefitted from capacity building workshops under the European Union Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (EU FLEGT) programme. As part of EU FLEGT programme, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) facilitated two workshops in Kwakwani and #58 Miles Mabura, Region 10, respectively, focused on sensitising forest operators on Environmental Authorisation process. The overall aim of the programme is to ensure that all forest operators become authorised in keeping with Section 14 of the Environmental Act. In accordance with Section 14 of the Environmental Protection Act Cap. 20:05, laws of Guyana, before development consent is given, in this case the harvesting and utilisation of forest resources, an Operator must first seek approval from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This approval is in the form of an Environmental Authorisation which is a legally binding document to guide forest operators on best environmental practices before and during harvesting and utilisation of forest resources.

EPA conducts workshop for Community Forestry Organisations in Region 2


January 08, 2018 - Thirty (30) representatives from Community Forest Organisation (CFOs) in Region 2, participated in a capacity building workshop on Friday, January 04, 2019. This workshop which was held in the Boardroom of the Regional Democratic Council in Region 2 and focused on sensitising Community Forest Operators on Environmental Authorisation process. This was the third workshop under the European Union Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (EU FLEGT) programme executed by the Environmental Protection Agency. The overall aim of the programme is to ensure all Community Forest Operators become authorised in keeping with Section 14 of the Environmental Act. In accordance with Section 14 of the Environmental Protection Act Cap. 20:05, laws of Guyana, before development consent is granted, in this case harvesting and utilisation of forest resources, an Operator must first seek approval from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

EPA looking to have the use of Generators authorised for better management

 

The Air Quality and Noise Management Programme (AQNMP) hosted a meeting on June 13, 2018, with the Ministry of Public Infrastructure – Rural Electrification Programme (MOPI -REP) and Guyana Electrical Inspection Department (GEI); the Mayor and City Council (M&CC); Guyana Fire Service (GFS) and the Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL). to discuss a unified way forward for the management and authorisation of generators and mitigate the impacts that arise from their usage.
